Will I see you Friday evening? I may talk a little about it then. I'm also going to write up some of my thoughts for a less public forum.

Go look at the past week's entries for the three of them. They went down South to help out some people Katrina slapped around. They just got back.

I missed most of this, since I was in Australia. But I have no words, except to say I read what you said about being neither too rich nor too proud to accept donations. I don't have much money, but I'd like to contribute what I can. Will a cheque in your name, sent to your home address, do the trick?

Date: 2005-11-14 03:02 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] new-man.livejournal.com
A cheque works. You can also use Paypal (which might be easier for transpacific transactions). And thank you for your contribution.

Marrus is fine. Her place is one of the few that was spared destruction. She is intermittently without power, and is still dependent on local restaurants for food (there are no supermarkets in the city). She has no internet connection at the moment. Emotionally, she's less good... but soldiering on.

It seems trite to say that the fact that you went is further evidence that you are a good man and I am proud to know you, but, well, that.

Welcome home.

Go. Find the time and go. Next month. In 6 months. It doesn't matter. They'll still be desperate for help.

Thank you. I've been saying this to everyone -- go. Send money. Send stuff. Find a way to help. It's a war zone down there. The emergency is not over. It hasn't even started to be over. Do something.

I have sent money, I will send more more. At this point in my life, I can't send me. Thanks for going. :-)

Send money as directly as possible. If I go back (which is a strong possibility), give it to me. They need bodies as much as supplies. Too much gets diverted by stupid politics, and many of the governemnt agencies are pulling out. Worse, many government agencies are working to shut down volunteer efforts.

Take a look at http://www.citizenactionteam.org

You don't have to send your self down to do good works. Make some phone calls, load a truck up here, beat the bushes for other volunteers. Leave a canned good donation box in the store.

I never doubted your resourcefulness. But you were far from home, and the universe has shown herself to be capricious lately. I am pleased that she was not.
