That's a great start! And you haven't even been all that cranky. *smooch*

You're gonna make us do math to figure out what weight you started at?

;)

Don't worry. Most of my friends are geeks. Someone will do the math.

Yay, keep up the great work!

Good for you. So, would you like some company this afternoon? I have the day free if you have time for a light lunch.

Lunch

I can't, even though I'd love to. I'm teaching from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm for the next two weeks.

Oh well, good luck!

Well done, way to go!

Excellent start! Keep at it.

See you this upcoming weekend, and we'll plan for a weeknight evening after that.

[p.s. Yes, I'm a geek. I did the math. But you didn't say, so I won't say either. The number doesn't change the long-term plan, the short-term offers for walks etc., or the justifiable modest pride in getting started so well.]

Yes, I'm a geek. I did the math.

I think of it similarly to the first rule of Italian driving, "What is behind me is not important". I know where I started, but it doesn't really matter; the important part is where I'm going.

[identity profile] peregrinning.livejournal.com 2008-07-14 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed. "I lost x pounds" is less important than "I am x pounds from my target weight."
[A voice wants me to say that these are less important than "My waist size is x inches from my target waist size." Too much influence from "You: the User's Manual" and "RealAge.com" these days.]

I generally think how I look/my measurments is more important than what I weigh. As I approach I get lighter, I'll also shrink. At some point I'll have to decided whether I actually have a target weight or a target pants size (or a target weight I can lift, distance I can run, etc.). They're not mutually exclusive, and right now I'm headed towards all of these goals ;-)

How you feel is the most important thing. I think it is helpful to keep a record of where you've been, just to remind yourself how much you have accomplished already. I set large and small goals for myself: weight goals, clothing size goals, and physical goals for myself.

Some of these may seem silly to other people (like being able to boost myself out of the pool without using a ladder), but they give me a way to acknowledge my successes.

Getting heavy didn't happen all at once. I didn't eat one wrong thing and suddenly gain 50 pounds. It was years of minor failures. I'm looking at losing the weight the same way -- in reverse -- and I'll take whatever little victories I can get. Milestones? Heck, I'll take inchstones. I want to pat myself on the back and celebrate every tiny little step in the right direction -- because all those tiny little steps add up.

Good going!

Very cool! When was the last weigh-in?

[identity profile] new-man.livejournal.com 2008-07-15 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
Every Monday morning.

Wow! Way (weigh?) to go!
