I've seen this before (people have been doing it online since the pregnancy was announced) and I find it nauseating. I disagree completely with Palin's stance on the issue, but I find it abhorrent to donate money in the name of someone who disagrees with the cause. Just donate the money and send Palin's campaign or your local newspaper a letter that says that you made the donation because her politics make it clear how important the cause is...

This is tacky, and I think its a horrible tactic.

I'm not sure. It partially depends on how it's handled. Someone making a donation and pretending it comes from Palin is wrong.

If I make a donation to the Police Athletic League in honor of my grandfather, it's because the cause was important to him and he had an impact on my life. I'm not claiming to be him, and usually when I make a donation like that the collecting organization gets both my name and the person I'm donating in honor or in memory of.

I'm not sure it's different than donating the money and saying "I'm giving you this donation because Sarah Palin has galvanized my views and stirred me to action"... they just don't have a checkbox for that.

Yes but in this case, people are doing it in "honor" of someone who doesn't support the cause. And I find that... unpleasant. But taste is thankfully something that we can all disagree on :)
