and a steal at only half the value of my student loans
you know, sometimes $50K doesn't sound like much. other times, it's f*cking absurd. unfortunately, I'm not sure which this is. on the one hand it's a comic book. on the other hand, it's Action Comics #1. but on the other hand, it's what, 50 pages? so better than a thousand dollars a page? i want work that's valued like that. but seriously - FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLARS for a comic book....
Fifty Thousand? Overstreet (which is the definitive resource for the prices on comics) puts Action Comics #1 as much as $675K, depending on condition (if I'm reading the eBay listing right). SO, at $50K -- it's a steal ;-)
A steal indeed -- and not going to be stolen. It's currently at $72k, and hasn't yet met the reserve price. (Which I assume is somewhere north of $100k.)
Sometimes, human beings mistake the value of something that is rare and useful for something really important, and the value of something that is simply rare.
